How do I make a call with the Aplio/Phone - »ç¿ë ¹æ¹ý ?

Dial the telephone as you would normally, and call someone with an Aplio/Phone attached to his or her phone. Once you've established the call, press the 'Aplio/Phone' button and hang up the phones on each end. The Aplio/Phone will disconnect the long distance call, dial into the Internet via your ISP, reconnect to your calling party and ring the both telephones. The connection usually takes 45 seconds or less. Then you both pick up the phone and continue your conversation.

Open Aplio/Phone will implement the H.323 standard to make Aplio/Phone compatible with other Internet Telephony systems such as PCs and IP gateways. In that scenario, you will be able to talk from an Aplio/Phone to a PC user with Microsoft NetMeeting or through a gateway, to anyone in the world who has a phone, without a PC or an Aplio/Phone.

Will Aplio/Phone work with my Internet Service Provider - Áö±Ý¾²´Â ÀÎÅͳÝÀ¸·Îµµ µÇ´ÂÁö¿ä?

Yes! The Aplio/Phone will work with any standard dial-up ISP that provides a true TCP/IP connection to the Internet.

Please note that some online providers may not be providing you with a true TCP/IP connection. Online services such as AOL may use their own private networks and provide gateways into the Internet. Contact your provider if you're not sure. Also, the current version supports dial-up analog connections only and does not support digital connections through a LAN or T-1 line, for example.

I heard that Internet telephony has bad sound quality. True - ¼Ò¸®°¡ ¾È ÁÁ´Ù´øµ¥?

In the early days of the technology (two years ago) the sound quality was inferior to standard telephones, especially with the first half-duplex PC-based software. With the full-duplex Aplio/Phone, the most recent algorithms and state-of-the-art compression technologies have been implemented to ensure the best sound quality possible.

In addition, Aplio/Phone technology is dedicated to only one function: Internet Telephony. We don’t have any additional disk or CPU overhead like a PC has. The result is a crisper, clearer voice quality, comparable or better to digital cellular phones.

Is Internet Telephony less secure than regular telephony -³²ÀÌ ¿³ µéÀ»¼ö ÀÖ´ÂÁö?

No! Actually, the opposite is true. Spying on a regular telephone line (tapping) is very easy since the sound signal is directly available on the wires, without any encoding or security. Internet Telephony uses a sophisticated voice compression algorithm and sends the voice as packets of data. These packets take an non deterministic route to reach the destination device and are reassembled into sound only when they reach their destination. Spying on an Internet Telephony conversation requires very sophisticated equipment and advanced technical abilities.

How does Aplio/Phone improve Internet Telephony security -
¾î¶»°Ô ´õ ¾ÈÀüÇÑ ÅëÈ°¡ °¡´ÉÇÑÁö
?

Aplio/Phone Phone is digital from one end to the other. This means that your phone conversation is encoded, compressed and packetized all the way from your wall phone jack to the destination wall phone jack. Other types of services may not be digital from end to end. For example, Internet Telephony gateway services use regular analog voice signals between their servers and the originating and destination telephones.

Sure. Long-distance carriers aren't crazy. They are making aggressive offers and promotions but they can't cut their prices by 90%! They will always charge more than the local calls. Therefore, Aplio/Phone will be always cheaper.

What is the difference between NetMeeting and Aplio/Phone -
´Ù¸¥ ÀÎÅÍ³Ý NetMeeting¿Í ´Ù¸¥Á¡Àº
?

Microsoft NetMeeting is a conferencing program with built-in Internet Telephony capabilities. Since it is software, it requires a computer (with NetMeeting installed) on each side of the conversation. You also need to schedule an appointment between the two parties on the Web. NetMeeting is simply not as convenient as Aplio/Phone. And when the H323 standard is in place, Aplio/Phone will be compatible with NetMeeting as well as Vocaltec Internet Phone.

What is the difference between the Internet Telephony carriers and Aplio/Phone -
´Ù¸¥ ÀÎÅÍ³Ý ÀüÈ ȸ»ç¿Í ´Ù¸¥Á¡Àº?

Internet Telephony carriers are small companies who offer PC-to-Phone services, and in limited areas Phone-To-Phone communications.

Their prices are sometimes competitive, but only in the areas where they have local access. In addition, their infrastructure cost is so high that they need to charge on a per-minute basis, just like traditional long-distance companies. Therefore, they are competing head to head with the long-distance carriers on price but with a lower quality.

Aplio/Phone is not dependent on any carrier. It works today and will work tomorrow. You don’t have to worry if your carrier will still be in business next time you place a call. And Aplio/Phone is the only solution to provide true Phone-to-Phone with a unique flat fee, unlimited rate.

What is the Aplio/Phone opportunity -  Àü¸ÁÀº ¾î¶²Áö¿ä?

IDC estimates that 24% of all Internet users are willing to use the Internet as their long distance carrier. In addition, Killen and Associates predicts that the Internet Telephony market will reach $63 billion dollars as early as 2001. Open Aplio/Phone

Open Aplio/Phone will enable the Aplio/Phone to communicate with other Internet Telephony products. Specifically, any computer, software, device or gateway service that supports the H.323 Internet Telephony protocol will be able to communicate with an Aplio/Phone.

This free software enhancement is scheduled for delivery in the spring of 1998. When it is released, each Aplio/Phone user will be able to automatically transfer and install Open Aplio/Phone to the Aplio/Phone device.

Open Aplio/Phone dramatically increases the calling capabilities of the Aplio/Phone in two ways:

1. PC to Aplio/Phone

With Open Aplio/Phone, any PC user with an H.323 compatible Internet Telephony software (such as Microsoft NetMeeting) will be able to call an Aplio/Phone device. The Aplio/Phone device needs to be in "economy mode", ready to receive a call.

Benefits:

2. Aplio/Phone to Phone

With Open Aplio/Phone, an Aplio/Phone user will be able to subscribe to any compatible Internet Telephony gateway service, using the gateway to reach virtually anyone with a telephone.

For example, assume that you subscribe to a gateway service that provides full coverage of the USA for five cents per minute. Using Open Aplio/Phone on your Aplio/Phone, you can dial into the gateway from ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and call any phone number in the USA for only five cents per minute! (plus your Internet subscription fee)

Benefits:

Aplio/Phone users don't have to wait for a local Gateway service to be available, since the Aplio/Phone device is doing all the local side of the Internet Telephony.
